CONO SUR FOOD RESEARCH
In class, we learned about Pan de Choclo, Ñoquis, Tarta de Jamón y Queso, and Bori-Bori. Research 4 other dishes from the Cono Sur. Write the name of the dish, country where it is eaten, main ingredients, a description of what it is like, and draw a picture for each food on your worksheet.
You can view this slideshow with pictures of many different foods from each of the 4 Cono Sur countries. After clicking each link, you may be asked to sign in to your PSB account - this is because the files are being shared via Google Drive.

These are the foods you will see in the video playlist:
Mate & Tereré
Mate (Argentina and Uruguay) and Tereré (Paraguay) are important drinks in the Cono Sur. They are both made from the same plant, but mate is served caliente, while tereré is frío. They are a type of tea, but instead of using a tea bag, the loose tea leaves are put in the cup with the water, and a special straw is used to filter out the leaves when people drink it. Some people also add sugar to make the drink more dulce. These drinks are also an important part of the culture, since sharing maté or tereré with friends, family, and even complete strangers is a part of daily life in Argentina, Paraguay, and uruguay.
ASADO
In Argentina and Uruguay, having an Asado (barbeque) with friends and family is an important part of the culture. The main dish is of course the meat, but other smaller dishes will often be served as well.
MILANESAS
Breaded fillet of meat or chicken, common throughout South America and especially popular in Uruguay and Argentina
ALFAJORES
Cookie sandwiches from Argentina, usually with dulce de leche, chocolate, or a fruit filling.
EMPANADAS
Empanadas are a common snack, lunch, or dinner in many South American countries. They can be filled with many different things, including pollo, carne, vegetales, papas, y queso.
MBEJÚ
Mbejú is a starchy corn bread that is very common in Paraguay.
